For some people, writing online can create some wonderful opportunities both financially and freedom-wise. You can choose what hours you want to work, and of course who you want to work for. However, even in the freelancing world there are some guidelines that you should always follow if you want to turn your dream of becoming an online writer into a reality. Here are just a few of them to get you writing in the right direction!
When you take the plunge of becoming an online freelancer, you are slowly building up your business brand – your name. If you want to be successful you have to actually treat it like a true job. Take the time to lay out a schedule that you will adhere to and don’t allow yourself to get sidetracked along the way. Many find that it helps to get dressed and follow your normal routine just like you would if you were getting ready for an offline job before you sit down to write.
Of course, you should always remember to take breaks during the work day. Without them, your writing will become dull and very strained – content writing can be very mind numbing work at times if you aren’t actually interested in the subject that you are writing about.
In order to protect your best interests as a writer, make sure you always draw up a contract. It should include a description of what the job is, the estimated completion date and of course the expected payment that you should receive. Always make sure both parties have a copy.
One of the most important things to remember is to never allow yourself to get too focused on assignments and jobs that take up too much of your time – unless they pay very well. Unlike an hourly job, your money is not guaranteed. Your time should be treated as money, so don’t waste it!
