Sometimes you get an urge to play a game that is not the latest or greatest. Just like songs have emotions or events attached to them, it happens with games. Maybe you just really liked that video or computer game. Maybe it reminds you of the good times you had with friends or family. So you go look for the game and you either no longer have the equipment to play it, it’s not available anywhere, or the emulator you downloaded is more frustrating to use than play.
There is an online gaming platform called Steam, and it is a dream. Steam distributes and updates over 1,100 games. These games range from the latest to items Activision and Atari made thirty years ago. To access a game a player must first download the Steam software, subscribe, and create an account. In addition to gaming you get the Steam Community where you can set up matches or tournaments, chat while gaming, and join groups. The prices are affordable. There are many games under $10.00. Steam regularly runs specials and provides boxed bundles. For instance, in its OddBoxx series it bundled the infamous Abe’s Odysee, Abe’s Exodus, Munch’s Odysee, and a new game to the series Stranger’s Wrath. The bundle costs less than $25.00. Steam even provides games for Mac computers.
Of course there are certain requirements that you have to have on your laptop or desktop. For PC’s Steam games will run with Windows XP, Vista, or 7. There needs to be a minimum of 512 MB RAM and 1 Ghz or faster processor. If you have a Mac, then you need OS X version Leopard 10.5.8, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, or later. The site highly recommends a two button mouse and 1GB HD space on your computer. It is better if your internet connection is broadband. As of October 2010, Steam had over 30 million users worldwide.
